  1. SCIENCE FICTION REVIEW 46 - A black ink and black color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size coquille paper. It appears on the cover of SFR 46, edited and published by Richard Geis. - In the background of this drawing is a scupture that also appears in my painting, "The Lovers," see item 419.

This fanzine, being a forum for commentaries by science fiction writers, editors, critics, fans, and illustrators, is a good place for me to make another entry on why I continue to be astonished at the inane statements that come out of the mouths of some famous celebrities. Here is another thoughtless personal revelation from the mind of Pablo Picasso . . .

On July 21, 1969 one of the greatest events in human history took place while the entire world watched on TV; American astronaut, Neil Armstrong descended from the Apollo 11 Moon Landing Craft, placed one foot on the surface of the Moon and said, "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind". This incredible feat was the culmination of all the philosophical and scientific progress man has achieved since he began walking on the surface of the earth way back in time when he was able to survive in a cave without clothes, without tools, without a fire to keep him warm. From Aristotle who taught us to think logically, to the scientific mind of Sir Isaac Newton, to all the men of science through the ages who quested for knowledge, they all contributed to this important achievement.

And when newsmen, all around the world asked famous people in every country what they thought about this thrilling historical event, this is what Pablo Picasso said to a reporter, "It means nothing to me. I have no opinion about it, and I don't care". - Incredible! The human race just took a giant leap into a higher level of science and technology, and Picasso couldn't care less . . .

Whenever I see a work of art by Picasso, it's virtues are lost on me because I am reminded that it is the work of a very small mind.
